From drum brakes to disc, a bit lost

Hi all,

As I'm rebuilding my MK indy completely I would like get a better braking system. It originally had drums at the rear but I would like to swap them for some discs. Preferably wilwood or hi spec (any advise or experiences on these is appreciated as well)

Anyway, I'm a bit lost in the amount of possibilities and set ups. What kind of uprights do I have, which one do I need, what kind of hubs, axle and wheel flange, etc.

I've looked at rally design as well and found these kits:

http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=45&products_id=12234

or

http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=10508

Can anyone give me some advise on the needed setup for this and if the kit in the first url is suits me and what's included in this because it doesn't really give me a clue.

My MK indy has a 7" 3.14 diff with independent push in axles (tripod). The picture shows the uprights I have (I still need to clean them up and repaint them ).

Thanks in advance!

You should have the drum bearing carrier, bolt this back on and order that wilwood kit, have your rear hubs turned down to 134mm and that's it, make up you brake lines and new handbrake.
The brackets are in the kit to hold the caliper to the bearing carrier.
Don't forget to order pads and u will need braided lines

I am currently getting my rear hubs turned down to 134mm this is so the disc fit over the hubs as it's an smaller escort disc

You can order the discs drilled as well.

I have hi spec now and are spot on, the wilwood is a 4 piston rear caliper.

That's what I know but I may be wrong.

Both kits include, discs, calipers and mounting plates. The rear kit also includes h/brake cables I think from memory (it was 7years ago). Make sure they include the adapters to go from the NPT threaded calipers to 10mm brake pipes. They don't include pads; Don't go for the Wilwood "smart-pads" as they're crap but get Mintex 1144 instead (RD sel them). The front is a straight fit but the rears require the hub flange reducing in diameter a fraction.

The handbrake calipers are a bit short on leverage in standard form but I made a relay lever in the tunnel that increases it and I have a very nice brake and feel.

What do you exactly mean by turning the hubs 134mm.
I guess this are the hubs I already have coming from the drums right?

The part which the wheel bolts to with the 4 studs , it's currently around 140mm in diameter u need to get it trimmed /turned down on a laithe to 134 mm so the disc fits over, this is done so u can run 13" wheels , using the drum bearing carrier brings the caliper further in so a small disc can be used giving space for the 4 piston caliper and the handbrake lever.

I just got some delivered today and they are in my boot ready to get turned down.

You can get rid of the drum back plate,
Bolt your bearing carrier directly to the part above in the pic and fit all the wildwood parts from rally design using your turned down hubs.

U can run any size wheel it just makes it easier to get 13" on as it's quite tight with the handbrake lever

Thanks, pretty clear! So whenever I keep my 15" wheels I currently have, I'm actually good to go?
