Steering rack - 2.9 or 2.4?
Morning all,
I'm planning to purchase a new steering rack this week having bent mine...
I currently have a 2.9 ratio fitted, and wondering whether to replace it with the same or pay a bit extra for a 2.4 ratio (which for some reason costs
£20 more from Rally Design).
Which one is likely to be best for road use?

2.4 is the way to go.

I'd say 2.4
There are those who say it's too much for road usage but (having had both) you soon get used to the sensitivity. Some racks advertised as 2.9
are standard but with lock stops fitted (RD one I originally had wasn't). I guess they just sellfewer 2.4's and so the cost per rack is
higher.

I had a 2.4 for quite a while - I found that my wrists ached after a decent-length drive on twisty roads, possibly due to the size of my steering
wheel (10" dia). It also takes some heaving when parking. Maybe it would be easier with a 12" wheel, but then I might not be able to get
my legs under it.
When I had to replace it I fitted the 2.9, which was a lot easier to drive. I sometimes miss the directness of the 2.4 in tight corners but for
general driving 2.9 is fine.
Of course, all this may be because I'm a wimp.

if you have bent an outer arm you can just replace the arm rather than the whole rack.

The outer arm looks fine, bizarrely it was the much chunkier inner rack that bent!
I'm think I'm leaning towards a 2.4 whilst I've got the opportunity.
I've still got the mahoosive donor steering wheel fitted at the moment, so leverage isn't too much of an issue!
