Steering Wheel Boss

I've been looking at replacing my steering wheel boss with a splined one as my current hexagonal one is rubbish.

On various recommendations, I've been looking at the Lifeline ones: http://www.lifeline-fire.co.uk/motorsport/products.asp?page=quick-release-steering-boss-19

Is the Touring/rally style boss a better option over the Formula style one? After perusing steering wheels, it looks like a 6 bolt boss will provide a greater range in steering wheel choice.

I didn't build my car originally, so can't say for certain, but would suggest just chopping off or turning down the threaded section and then welding on the new boss.

Any more thoughts on which boss is the one to go for?
