MX5 outer CV joint?

Anyone took a mx5 driveshaft to bits?

Just wondering what holds the shaft into the cv joint at the outer/wheel end?

Is it held in with a circlip or just the rubber boot holding it together?

Outer CV joint on an MX5 is held in with a wire clip in a groove near the outer end of the splines.
A sharp blow on the inner race should break the CV free.

Note: The later inner (differential end) push-in CV joints (ball type) need a wire clip removed which holds the outer race and balls into the CV housing.
The shaft complete with outer and inner race/balls can then be withdrawn from the housing and an external circlip can be removed from the inner end of the shaft and the inner race can then be removed from the splined shaft.
