+4 Chassis,what steering rack?

Whats the best rack to use on the +4 chassis, and what mods are needed to get it right? i.e. do the arms need lengthening ? etc.

Pretty sure Cortina track is +4" so that'd do. But check that before you pay any money!

James

rack

i have built a 442 and have found the escort mk2 rack to be spot on and
as it is a bit too wide for a standard locost anyway
you will still need extensions on the rack to get the full thread in the track rod end
good luck dave

did what dblissett said. Mk2 escort with rod extensions (available from GTS and rally design I think) is a perfect fit.

I bought the GTS extensions for my Escort rack, and whilst of superb quality, I think they were designed for a shortened Sierra rack as they are way too long on the Escort rack, even in a +4" chassis.

I also have a Cortina rack, and it's not a great fit in the locost to be honest. The Escort rack is definately the one to go for,

Hi Mike,

Just as a matter of interest, how long are the GTS extensions ?

Paul G

p.s. +4 chassis = mk II escort rack

Considering I had to slice 3.5" out of the middle of my rack, a chassis 4" wider should work nicely with an escort rack!!!!
However if the extra width is in the wishbones, it's the same old story...

155mm long in total, 25mm of which is the male threaded end.

I too found by careful calculation that the Escort Mk2 standard size rack is the perfect size for the McSorley 7+4" chassis to minimise the dreaded bump steer. I got some track rod extensions from Paul G (type907) and if he's still in the habit of making them up then I would highly recommend that you speak to him.

I think your extensions are about 80mm IIRC Paul?

Cheers,
Craig.
