Rear Caliper removal
I am trying to replace my rear caliper and getting a bit frustrated ... last plan was to take it to a motor factors to find out which one it is
however I can't get it off! Does the cable come with the caliper or is it removable?? I can't see how I can get the cable off the caliper.
Hope this picture gives enough info?

Any suggestion?
Alex

The end of the cable hooks over the end of the part that operates the handbrake. If you rotate the part clockwise (IE the same action the cable would
do in normal operation) you should then be able to unhook the cable from the end.
Be aware, the last time I did something like that, it was incredibly hard work. I'd probably look at trying to get a screwdriver through the egg
shaped hole in the rotating part and the hole in the caliper itself. Then you should have an easier time removing the cable.

I thought I had tried that but oblivious not I did not try hard enough! The part did not seem to rotate that far and not far enough to be able to
unhook the cable...
How does the cable sheave detach from the caliper (assuming I can up hook it!) or is it obvious..

Obvious point - have you slackened off the handbrake adjuster fully and put the and brake in the off position ? Sheath is just a push in fit IIRC.

You need a lot of Slack to get it off.

Yeah as above, you'll struggle without slackening the cable!
Then the fitting will slide off, front part of the 'hook' first.

If you are having problems with the caliper it could be as simple the cable is just over tensioned. If the cable has tension in it in the off position
the self-adjusting mechanism can't work. This type of caliper needs a fair bit of free play in the cable with the handbrake lever in the off
position for the self-adjuster to work.
