What Steering Column?

What would you suggest as a good, simple steering column to use?

Sierra if you can get one.
I have mx5 for my next project as they are cheaper and more readily available Mx5 mk1+2

I do not think it matters, whatever falls to hand as you will need to space out to reach the steering rack anyway.

Hi ya,
I was thinking what has less complications like the rake adjustments etc. The simpler the layout the better.

Avoid all that rubbish, something out of a really basic car is all you need, if it has switch gear that does not need relays for lights all the better
as the wiring is then less complicated.

Most Sierra switchgear is very tired.
If I did again, I'd look to something like a common VW column. Something with nice action on the indicators. It's one thing on my car
that bugs me.

As mentioned the MX5 column is easy to find and work with. The top plate fits nicely on to the chassis with a couple of bolts, the bottom is fixed
using an exhaust clamp.
The only thing to watch out for is if the steering lock doesn't engage when you remove the key or the column looks shorter than others. This
usually means it's collapsed, either from in an accident or has had other similar forces applied through it.

And if you want to add buttons/lights/display to the steering wheel at some point, look for a column/wheel with the clock-spring wires.
