Rear Discs
Hi Guys,
My car has what I think is sierra rear drums.
The setup is VERY heavy and not a great finish etc, rough welds etc.
I was thinking of scrapping the mounts etc and maybe go to discs?
Does anyone sell the mounting hubs etc and what donor parts would I need?
Cheers!

Disc setup will be heavier than drums, assuming you are thinking of using Sierra components.

The current setup looks like cast welded. Each side weighs about 20KG I guess.

Will be swings and roundabouts weight wise using OE setup. Alloy calipers will be only way to save some and very few have a proficient handbrake
mechansim.

How about getting new mounting for current drum setup. Rather than the cast piece?

I built my MK Indy using the Sierra rear drums from my donor car. I wasn't especially worried about weight I have to say, but they worked fine
and I painted the drums to make them look a little better. I would also highlight that the handbrake worked very well too (with a new cable and the
donor Sierra handbrake lever.

You can buy alloy handbrake calipers off ebay for an audi, brand new for less than £40 each. they fit with sierra cosworth discs and brackets off
ebay.
The hand brake on them is very good but you will need audi handbrake cables and caliper sliders too

Thats the rear upright, looks unconventional? but changing the brakes will not not change that part. May be difficult to mount the caliper though.
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

That looks it was dragged out of the sea!
Drums are not heavy, see if you can get that remade, mine are not show pieces I put the heavy cast piece into a lathe and removed a whole lot of
weight before welding into my upright.
