Where can I get some disk breaks for my Escort Mk2 Timken Type rear axle?

Kits to bolt/weld on brackets to accept Sierra calipers are available from most rally parts suppliers etc.
Question: Why do you want to convert (presuming this is a Q related to the Locost)? If you *really* want/need better brakes, your money is far better spent on the front end. The rears do little to help slow the car in the grand scheme of things when you are trying to stand your car on it's nose! Converting to discs on the rear is just for 'bling' IMHO....

I agree with Stu on this one.
Regarding the fronts though, I can quite easily lock the front wheels on my Avon with standard Cortina calipers, discs and pads - is it really worth the money when the brakes are doing all that they physically can?

Being able to lock the wheels is no indication of wether the brakes are up to the job. With locked wheels the brakes are doing absoutely no work at all., i.e. I can lock the brakes on my Citroen AX Gt at any speed, but emergency stops from high speed require a three week written notice and a change of trousers (a known problem with them).

Good brakes will be able to be accurately controlled about the lock point (good "modulation" ) all the way from Vmax to stop, several times in a row without distress.

have to agree. locking of the wheels is no indication that the brakes are good.

My capri used to lock the wheels using standard 2.8inj discs and calipers ( simular to your cortina ones, just vented ), where as, now with the 280mm discs and granada calipers, she can stop in so much less distance, with no lockup at all. no change in tyre ( was running 15inch before the change ).

If you have cortina hubs, you might want to look at what Caprisport can offer you. They do kits to mount all sorts of discs sizes using more moden floating calipers.

Agreed to a point-they certainly won't be getting hot! But they must of had the 'power' to lock the brakes in the first place, and *if* they can do that at any speed, they are as powerful as you need them. If they can do it at any speed, repeatedly they are as effecient as you need them. Fair point about the 'control' though, but even that can be 'tuned' in other ways...

Cheers guys,

I know the back breaks do much less than the fronts and drums are more than suitable.
But when Im looking through the highly polished spokes on my gleaming alloys I want to see shiny break disk and painted calipers

I shall be looking at getting discs on the back of mine at some point, due to the fact that discs are a lot easier to maintain and more reliable. theycan be inspected visually rather than a strip down which always helps.
