RS2000 Escort Steering Rack

Probably a stupid question...

Are these identical to the standard Mk2 Escort rack?

Also is it really worth getting a quick rack? As they seem rather expensive. Anyone know how much the conversion kits are?

Cheers,
David

No because threads and ball joint tapers are the same as a Mk1 -- for a Locost stick to normal Escort Mk2 rack

£49.50 for the quickrack kit from rally design or £109.50 for a complete built up rack.

Yes, you do want one unless you never plan to drive beyond the limits of grip at the rear of the car! It will be something of a handful when sliding without a quickrack.

David

Just a thought, as I am/will be building a wide track car I can just make the extensions adapters can't I? With one end tapped the imperial thread on the rack, the other with the correct thread for the std. mk2 TREs.

That problem solved...Now other than the threads are the racks identical? eg casing, input shaft etc?

A genuine RS2000 rack should have bronze bushes as opposed to the standard plastic ones - a nice bonus!

Well I emailed the guys at the shop and they told me the rack has MK2 metric threads and so takes the MK2 TRE's. Anybody wants one:

http://www.competitionpartsuk.co.uk £38+VAT for a new RS2000 rack (last time i checked)

I got hold of a rack now anyway just thought I would clarify the points raised.

Cheers,
David
