Sierra IRS north american equivelent

What is the Sierra IRS north american equivelent?
I've come acros some pics of a ford Thunderbird (so I'm told) which had an IRS, is this the same unit?

I thought the Merkur was based on the mustang chassis, in which case it should be a solid live axle, but I'll definatly have to take a close look at one.

As Stevebubs link, the Merkur XR4Ti was a sierra XR4i with a lima 2.3 turbo engine (which I think another builder, Dale, in Canada is using)
