205 tyres on 7.5J rim?

Is it okay to put 205/40/17 tyres on 7.5J/17" rims? Or is it a tad too narrow?

Thanks,
Marcel

7.5J rims are 7.5" wide right? (these things confuse me) Which is only 0.5" less than 205 tyres....

I did have a link to rim size and matching tyre sizes, but i cant find it

EDIT: Found one of them:

Read the section called: 'Matching your tyres to your wheels'

They will be ok mate.. IIRC 205's go on 7 rims so 7.5 will be good.

yup, steve turner told me that 7s or 8s were ok for 205 tyres (might be different if they were low profile though, mine were 60/13)
