rear uprights
Has anyone attempted to make their own rear hub uprights? I'm trying to build a locost with irs using a seirra (drum brakes at back). I am
confident in my welding ability but I'm not sure about the requirements for the hubs. The sva manual doesnt go into detail on hub design
requirments.
Whats likely to happen at the sva when the examiner sees my home built uprights? Will he just check for strength?

Charlie,
I made up mine using the ends of Sierra trailing arms welded (both sides) into 6mm sheet plate (cut to roughly same diameter as hub backplate, but
with a "flat part" at the bottom to allow 2 wishbone brackets; and a "peak" for the one bracket at the top).
Drums fitted upside down, so slave cylinders at bottom, handbrake cable at front top.
You will need to cut holes for access to slave cyls/brake pipe and handbrake cables.
They need a couple more bits of steel welding in place (reinforcement), but that's a job for the future.
I'd put some pic's on site, but it ain't working!!
