Steel suitable for Suspention.
Ok peeps, time to pick your brains again.
What tubing is suitable for the suspension? Do you HAVE to use seamless or can you step up wall thickness and use seamed instead?
What other things can you use?

many people have used seamed tubing for their wishbones and got away with it happily as ive said before, ive driven on 19mm 16g square erw before,
it never collapsed. Planned upgrade to 25x2mm round tube if i can be arsed.

I got away with 16g 25mm ERW for ages, until I hit a curb hard at Castle Combe ...
The trick is to make sure that you weld the plate to the CENTRE-LINE of the tube and that the tube is arranged so that that weld runs along the
original joint seem so it is a redundent feature.
Upgrading to 25mm x 2mm CDS for the load bearing arms. In my suspension design that is both upper and lower front wishbones and lower rear
wishbones.
Due to the shock arrangement I can make do with ERW (25x2 though to be sure) for the upper rear wishbones
I would recomend CDS. It's not too much more expensive and a better engineering solution. 1 length should be enough to do all of a live axle
car.

So would 25mmx25mm square steel tubing with a wall thickness of 3mm be strong enough then? Or am I still going to be hunting for a local supplier of
round steel tubing?

I'd be happy enough to use 25x25 x3 for wishbones.
I would confirm first that there would be no issues with the SVA concerning the radius rules.

Does anyone know the size/wall thickness of the oval tubing that MK uses for their lovely wishbones? I'd have a set myself, but I'm
messing with the front geometry (wide track, etc) and I doubt they would fit.
Cheers

I don't think there would be any SVA issues as my wishbones would be inboard like on a production car.
