sierra steering uj's
Anyone know the maximum operating angles for sierra steering uj's? I've got designs on bringing the steering to the centre, and need to know if a
specialised rack is inevitable.

Ubetcha. Well, mid-engine anyway. VFR with cut-down sierra diff. Weight is a big factor, so I'm making up a single seater chassis.

Hello,
30 degrees is about the most you want to run them at (although my sierra UJs look like they could get a bit closer to 35 at a push.
I've had a few steering column woes too (front diff and big engine right in the way) and have found you can get double uj's from various
manafacturers which allow you to displace the column 80-90 degrees in a small space. They cost a fair bit though and its hard to know what ratings to
go for, so I'm making my own by welding sierra/escort ujs together back-to-back with no shaft between. Not quite as compact as a proper double uj,
but cheap and I know they're rated high enough for the application.
Also bear in mind that with three or more ujs in the steering column and you will need to support shafts with bearings.
