Toyo Proxes T1R Good/Bad ??
Hi there Guys, quick question. I keep hearing about people using Toyo Proxes, just not sure which model.
Has anyone any idea what the T1R's are like in 195/50 15 size - dry & wet. Also what would be the average price.
Fitted to mk Indy.
Much appreciate any answers.

I think 888's are the ones most people use, but I am not sure....
I know Mac1 sell T1S's in 195/50 for £35 each and 888s are £87.50 each

Hi, thanks for the welcome - certainly an absolute fountain of knowledge on here by the looks of it !!!
Re the tyres - was looking at some down the local dealers and also a Toyo book - the 888's looked more of a "track" tyre than an
every day dry & wet fast road tyre. The pattern of the 888 doesn't look as though it could handle wet roads as well as say the T1R. At that
price the 888's would be out of reach of my pocket anyway
I was just trying to see what alternatives there were to the Yoko 539's that just about everyone seems to use - sometimes a better deal can be
had on which types the local dealer sells (he doesn't deal in Yoko's.
Still open for comments anyone ???

I've used both T1-S and T1-R on the tvr. Lots of grip in the dry and pretty good in the wet. I was out and about yesterday in Sheffield and
Leeds and had no problems despite the shocking weather.
The main difference between the R and S if I remember right is that the T1-R has a harder sidewall which makes the ride a little harsher. I've
also heard the R's are a bit better in the wet but I've not really noticed myself.
My personal preference is the S but they are both good. (It's also getting a bit harder to find the S).

Hi have you ever considered trying the Goodyear Eagle f1 GSD3??. I work for Goodyear UK as a tyre technician and have had the opertunity to test this
tyre on many different types of cars from fords to Ferraris. The wet weather performance is awsome to be honest . The dry performance would not be as
good as a Toyo Or Yoko due to thier tread compound is more suited for track use hence the grip. However, the GSD3 has more than enough grip for fast
road use . You should try some i swear by em . and im not saying that just because i work for the company.

I had the T1-S on the Elise and I found them excellent on road and track, the T1-R is supposed to shift more water but I found the T1-S great in the
wet anyway.
T1-S are no longer made so if you can find some then they are often a good price.

Seriously though, now that you mention them, my mate's used F1's before on his Pug road rally car and he said they were good.
Will have to check with the local dealer and compare prices against the Toyo's.

I can confirm that R888's are great in the wet. .............. for sliding about and generally having lots of sideways fun (on a track of
course - see the latest video on our website) 
For the road and wet weather driving, you might want to try T1-R's. Realistically though, how much wet weather driving are you gonna be doing?
If not a lot, then go for the R888's, if your budget will stretch that far. They really are a cracking dry weather tyre when up to temperature.

the difference i see in them is
888's are list 1b
T1R (T1S) are list 1a
everybody in a locost/ sevenesque would be in a list 1b if competing .
for the road - t1r would last longer

I would recomend the toyo t1r's , I run them on my current road car and it's like it's on rails. good in wet & dry. thou the
price wasn't cheap , I hit a stone at the side of the road and punctured the side wall on one of the tyres so had to get a new one ,£125 for a
235/45r18.
don't seem to wear too quickly either so good all round really

I think it'l have to be the T1R's initially to try - they are available at what I think is a very good price.
Don't expect to be on the track much and cumbrian weather is not exactly tropical !!

Prefer the S' myself, they seem to give a more consistant grip. I had R's on the back of my Mk1 MR2 and they seemed to have occasional
'off' days where they didn't grip as much.
The R's got trashed by Elvington in 1 day, Eagle F1's tend to melt on the track. (On the Mr2 anyway).
mytyres.co.uk still have the S in stock.
I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway.
But more, much more than this,
I did it side-ah-ways.

Remember the weight of your car will be about half a normal car, so anything suitable for normal cars is normally a tad hard for our cars.
