Propshaft front slider
I have the propshaft off my sierra donor, the rear end of which fits exactly on the Capri axle which I have fitted.
The front end of the propshaft has the normal slider shaft which fits into the gearbox. Unfortunately, the slider is attached to a 6" rubber donut
instead of a UV jount, it is clear I will need another propshaft to supply the correct front end fitment.
Which cars will I find in a scrappy which will have the same slider shaft as the Sierra and be attached to a UV joint so I can mate the two propshafts
together to make the completed shaft?

Just a matter of loking M8, ford fitted 3 types of joint onto the front of their props for the cortina/sierra range. in order of cominalitythey were
:-
Rubber donut with centre bearing.
Hardy/spicer joint (UJ)
And least common but they do turn up occasionally ------ Constant Velocity Joint.
As I said you need to look at Sierra, Cortina (3, 4, 5), also Granada Mk 2 & 3, not forgeting Capri. Its just a matter of looking.
Enjoy.

I am also looking for front and rear joints for a propshaft, will the cortina and capri joints fit a type 9 box? .I also have found that my axle has a
smaller drive flange than commonly found on most ford axles, it is a 1300 escort axle and the flange is about 80mm dia.Any suggestions as to what
vechiles used the smaller diff flange?.

Yes, I think anything with a type 9 box and a live axle will have a UJ - the rubber couplung only really works via a bearing to a fixed diff. Transit
maybe? I guess a propshaft company would put a new UJ in place of your donut.

i have read that a transit is supposed to have the right front joint.
I got a propshaft made from brand new parts to exactly the spec i wante. I think it was reco prop. This cost 125 quid plus vat. expensive, but the
prop, in top gear, goes faster than the engine revs. If it comes apart it could be fatal. Patching up a shaft from old bits as per ron in the book,
and hoping this 7,000rpm whip was in balance and had A1 welding by me wasnt worth saving 125 quid.
If you do want to make your own, I wonder if a prop company would sell you the bit you wanted. I asked if they could mod my prop and they reconed it
would have been as expensive, or moreso, than the new one.
it was great to just unwrap a new painted prop made just right for my car. Sad really
