Gearbox end

I've just heaved out the knackered old oil seal from the back end of my Type 9 gearbox. I have noticed that the splined shaft has a bit of side-to-side movement - is this normal?

Or do I have to take it to bits to repair a bearing...

Yup the mainshaft bearing is a long way up the tube so about3mm each way is reasonable

I had a look at a cut-away drawing of a type 9 box - as you say, the last bearing is somewhere around the back of the gearbox proper.

That's a relief!

thanks,

David
