Wishbones

Please, no explosives!!
Just a gentle reminder that these things still happen. Below is from Aus Yahoo list.

................................................................
[Locost_Oz] cracked wishbone

Found a crack in the front left bottom wishbone yesterday, a bit unnerving as it had sagged and opened up and I was about 25k from home, luckily one of the guys with us lived close by so got it to his place for running repairs which got me home, thanks Rob. The wishbone is exactly to the book and has been on the car for 15K it cracked the front tube in the high stress area between the coilover mount and the lower balljoint. All the normal checks were carried out when the car was built ie coil binding, articulation of ball joints etc .
..................................................................

Not pointing fingers, or anything else.

Be aware and be careful.

Cheers,
Syd.

Can of worms or what ???

I think most folk on here are aware and have upgraded front bone material both in diameter and wall.

Thanks anyway as I'm sure there are folk who'll use the book info as bible.

It could be that the shocks are set too hard. Even very heavy guage metel will fracture if it is set too rigid.

As i have said before it would be a lot more helpfull if we had database on here with the inacurate parts of the book listed, bottom wishbone failings have been mentioned before but it does seem to get forgoten

Syd is right to flag the problem as there are allways new builders turning up each week

Along with the FAQ on my site, I can add a list of book errors if people think it will be helpful.

However I will need the help of you guys to build up the list.

Go to this page:
http://gtslocost.locostsites.co.uk/bookerrors.htm

Type the error details into the form and I will copy the info onto the page and keep it up to date as well as I can.

(Theres no link to the page from my site at the moment, but it will be added today next to the FAQ link)

Cheers,
David

Don't tell me............. your budget is £250, right??

You must be really early on in your build if you still think Ron is the Messiah.............

I bought my chassis from MK so hopefully should be fine. Before I do anything I will check/recheck.
