ST Pedal Box clutch return spring

Got myself a stuart taylor pedal box last week. Its going to a type 9 box.

Everything works well, except the pedal can fall to the floor (towards me) as there is nothing to stop it from sliding through the fitting on the type 9 release arm. Is there any issue fitting a spring to hold it in place? Worried about it continually pussing the release bearing a little and how strong to make it.

could u not make up some sort of stop bolt which goes through the bulkhead to stop it>?

A spring will put hardly any pressure on the bearing and clutch.

Had exactly this problem myself last week, trip to the scrappy and a look at some older vehicles revealed some suitable springs that fit over the central pivot of the pedal, one end cliped round the pedal shaft and just drilled a hole in the pedal box mount for the other end of the spring to go in, sorry i cant remember what vehicle the spring i used cam off!! DOH!

I too had exactly this problem myself....

...my solution was to put a spring over the cable between the bulkhead and the pedal pivot. It wasn't any special spring, as it isn't doing anything other than stopping the pedal flopping down, just something I had lying around

Great minds think alike!
