Introduction to race car setup & preparation

1 day course

Next course

Sunday, 14th May 2006

Description

A 1-day course designed as an introduction to understanding setup, geography of a race car and pre-race preparation.

Overview

Many people start motor racing with the intention of buying a race car and running it themselves. They pitch up at their first ever race meeting with no knowledge of setup or preparation and then find themselves at the back of the grid because of a poor handling car. Most would put this down to lack of driving experience, possibly a factor in some cases, but without a race car that has been setup and prepared properly, even with god given driving talent, you wont find yourself at the front of the grid.

Understanding the importance of setup and preparation is quite simply the difference between winning or loosing a race.

Race car setup cannot be learnt overnight and it takes years of experience to perfect for the various different formulae. The aim of this course is to help owner-drivers understand the basic concepts of setup such as toe in/out, camber, cast, rake, ride height, etc. as well showing them essential steps in pre-race preparation.

This introductory course will highlight the importance of what has been discussed above and give owner-drivers a better understanding of the car they are racing. After the course, there is scope for further training with SMA and the NC4M to hone both skills, driving and engineering, both vital for a race win.

Who should attend?

First time owner-drivers who need to understand the basics of race car setup and those entering racing without a proper understanding of the importance of correct setup. Essential dos and don'ts of race car preparation.

Learning Objectives

The aim of this course is to help owner-drivers understand the basic concepts of setup such as toe in/out, camber, cast, rake, ride height etc as well as showing attendees the essential steps in pre-race preparation.

Got an interview there a week Friday for a Race Technician Apprenticeship. Don't know whether I'm more nervous or excited. Course sounds pretty good John.
