Alloy overhaul.
Hi Chaps
Have five alloys that are in need of overhaul.
Usual corrosion and leaking around the rims.
Is this a locost DIY job or do I need to seek proffesional help (no jokes )
If it is a DIY job, what do I do about the pitting? Is there an alloy filler that I can use or do they need to be re-cut around the rims to get an
air tight seal?
I want to keep them as they belong with the car and I'm not too happy about replacing them.
Any tips, hints gratefully received.
Cheers
Mark
If a bolt is stuck force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!!!

i did mine on the kit. Friend blasted them, i rubbed them down a bit afterwards. Couple of coats of etch primer, several coats of high build, coats of
top coat, lacquer to finish. Total pain in the arse doing one side at a time, waiting, then turning over to repeat each stage. Took weeks to complete.
Had to work around the wheels etc etc. If you have painting gera and somewhere to hang them up and leave them safely then it would be far easier.
Cost me loads in the end to DIY them. (Easily 30 - 35 per wheel exc time).
Just booked my road car wheels in for a top quality job - quoted me £188 for 4 x 17" wheels. You can get chaeper. To be honest i wouldnt do them
myself next time as i dont have proper painting set up.

LAPTAB around birmingham are supposed to be good and i don't think they're that expensive. Seem to recall you can use a courier to get
them stuff as well.
never used them myself (yet)

Laptab did mine. 4 6x14 stripped, tidied and powder coated black for £117.50 inc vat.
I'll be using them to do my pepperpots too when I feel up to driving over there.

I've had three sets of wheels done at Laptab, my father has had more done and I can vouch that the quality is second to none...
Cheers

Is that a nice gloss black?
Might have to pay them a visit at that price, with the wifes wheels?

Certainly a bit cheaper than me! I charge £80+vat per wheel, but do over 40 a week at that price.
First have the wheel spun on a balancer to check it is not buckled.
Break the top bead to give access to the upper rim, we use JB Weld to build up kerb damage, block out, hibuild, reblock and then use a coarse silver
and clearcoat
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
