Replacing brakes
I'm currently at the stage where i have the calipers and discs off the sierra.
I'm already getting new pads and discs but is it worth replacing the calipers?

Unless they were new with the car I would say definitely yes.
They don't cost a lot on an exchange basis and they will look good! (and you will have good brakes)

I bought my brakes from a reconditioning company called BigRed. They do an exchange for you calipers and they come back perfect. They replate them or
enamel them for reasonable prices.

what exactly do you exchange if you basically get you callipers refurb'd? or have i got the wrong end of the stick?

The calipers
Basicly you give them your, naty rusty seized calipers, they give you some they'd already refurbed.

ah i see 
is it cheaper to do this than to buy some new?
Thinking of cost to product ratio, what is the best option? to buy new (presumably more expensive!)or get some refurbed ones (for cheaper)?

Refurbed are fine.
I dread to think what the price for new would be, if you could get them.
The BIGGRED ones in the link look very smart, but thestandard plating is Ok and you could always paint them with caliper paint, if you wanted, that
way you can paint the carriers to, which, dont normally get included in the refurb.
In fact it would be good for a laugh to get a price for new and post it

I did n,t go for the red ones, but my rover 214 front and rears came back in 'new' condition. They were replated and even came with the
expansion rubbers for the sliding bolts on the carrier.
