Which rear calipers fit under 13" rims..
Hi all,
I have had a good search and could not find an answer....
I have a nice set of 13" minilights, but cannot fit them to the Sierra 4x4 rear IRS without a 3/4" wheel spacer.
The problem I have is that although there is enough room for the callipers inside most of the wheel when almost bolted up the inside of the wheel
tapers which fouls the nose of the calliper rubs.
I'm pretty sure that some judious work with an angle grinder will resolve this but its definitely not first choice (unless someone's
already done this).
In the other threads the VAG golf callipers do not fit a 13" wheel, so does anyone know of a calliper that does ?
As always more than one way to skin a cat, has anyone moved the rear brakes inboard, if so any issues ?
I was also thinking about single pot rear callipers in the usual place and moving the handbrake to the propshaft. Then make something like a landrover
but using a gear (bike starter gear) and having a simple set of pawls which will pull into mesh to lock the prop, voila !
Anyone tried this ?
Cheers Mark

Citroen/Peugoet calipers fit under 13" rims using either Fiesta (English axle 240mm discs) or Citroen ZX (Atlas axle and 247mm discs) discs when
I have used them, not sure about on an Indy though.
There's a picture of the Atlas axle setup in my archive, using 13" Revolution wheels. No comments about the organic suspension units
either.

Those pug calipers look nice and small, I think the dics are 247mm...
However as I already have the Sierra lumps of iron what are the mods you mention, if I trash them attempting to make it work I,ll only lose a bit of
time, they only just foul at present.

I believe the hispec rears are designed to fit under 13" rims but have no experience myself. I'm planning on cxr's and some modding
when I've got the cash.

beware, I've got yellow skin

Mark - I used the system you describe - I used a mechanical spot caliper on the propshaft for the handbrake - I think "pawls" would not
class as an emergency independent 2nd braking system.... The wilwood single pot floating calipers I used at the back are extremely light & the
whole system appears to do the business nicely. follow the www button below to my website if you want to see pictures

Non at all, I used the Citroen ones because the offset made fitting the calipers much easier. The Fiesta ones were used on the English axle with a
bolt on bracket, but the Atlas required a different offset and a weld on bracket. Both discs require the half shaft flanges to be machined.

No idea what setup is on my Westfield, but the wheels are 13" and no spacers.

Thanks for the replies.
Westfield look suspiciously like the Sierra ones I already have, although the minilights are different. Just checked the Westfield web site, they list
ford or golf callipers so I it must be in the wheels !
Also looked at Wilwood, a bit hicost for me I'm afraid.
Saxo VTR callipers are looking favorite at this minute, however I do have a lathe so I may look at moving it all across to the Diff tomorrow. Just
need a few nice brackets and a bit of trickery.... But hell its free and reduces lots of sprung weight.
Regards Mark

A pawl system isn't considered a parking brake --- also any transmission brakes is best avoided.
It should be ok to grind the caliper a little.
