are you dissatisfied with the live axle, or just seeking to modernise?

So you either want to go dedion or IRS?
Their are several options available, the dedion being the simplest option and probably quickest conversion, you can get the kit from GTS for about 150
iirc but check the website or give them a ring.
Also i think MK engineering used to do a dedion in kit form that you hade to weld up yourself or i think their are plans around somewhere to make it
all yourself.
IRS wise Rorty's plans seem good and very detailed, you can get them from flakmonkeys site.
You could also adapt the IRS design from Tigers book plans.
The merits of IRS Vs Dedion have been discussed a lot if you do a search.
Personally i went with a dedion for simplicitys sake, maybe later i could convert to IRS if i decide thats what i want.

not dissatisfied just seeking to modernise
as i think the handling may be a little better
also for a better diff ratio
as my car just want to go side ways (which is fun)

As said, de-dion will be much easier. IRS will require chassis mods to the rear end, whilst de-dion may well fit without, depending upon chassis and
de-dion kit. Both have their own pros/cons, but personally I'm going de-dion since it's easier to make/install.

mods will need to be made for a dedeion as the dedion tube would hit the undertray bars, their are some plans from GTS on flakmonkeys site that shows
you what needs to be done, word of caution though, thyey are for GTS chassis not book, you can still make the undertray tubes to the dimensions
however the rear bulkhead is 40mm higher so just cut the appropriate tubes to length rather than as stated in the plans

Hi or just get your live axle set up properly with toe and camber and a few other small tricks and then apart from the slightly higher unsprung issue
which can be sorted with dampers valved to suit you will have a perfectly good back end geo setup. Gearing will still be a issue tho if using a bike
engine.
