A couple of turnes of the rod end...

Hi gents:

I made my front upper control arms slightly too long. I have a threaded bung I welded into the tube and a rod end screws into that--replacing the ball joint. My hope is that it is OK to cut 1/8" or so out of the front part of the control arm.

My rod ends are 1/2"-20. How much additional adjustment will this give me?

Also, is this safe? Ideally, I'd throw all the bits into my old jig but I threw it out during a garage cleaning fury last year.

--Thanks, Chris

depends how long the threaded inserts are really, how much you can take off. You may need to reweld the bungs in if you cut too much off. I assume its the inner end that you are chopping down?

If you are using a locknut, consider fitting it to the other end of the threaded bush, assuming the threaded part of the rod end is long enough.

The threaded bung is 3/4" long. The flange is 1/4" thick. I want to make that 1/8" thick. Will that be enough? I may only need to cut 1/16" off. What is the formula for turns of a rod end per degree of camber?

From drawing: 2.6°camber per 10mm, fairly linear.
