a-series box to escort axle

Is it straight forward to connect an a-series engine to an escort diff?
Do I need to make up a hybrid prop?

Cheers

Gear box to prop is easy as you've guessed all you need is a suitable prop with the correct ends on it.

Simplest way is use a Mk1 Escort or Mk1/Mk Cortina or Mk1 Capri Axle, which has a flange for circlip type UJs.

Of course because all the gearboxes used on A series engines are seriously awful and weak a good option is to mate the engine to a Ford type 9

Interesting ...
Is it a simple job to make the type 9 box
fit?

Depend upon the engine really.

New engine backplate required the Midget/Sprite guys and Morris Minor duffle coats do it because they are running out of 1300 Marinas to fillet the gearboxes out of.

The original Lotus se7ens used BMC A series engines and transmissions hooked up to a Standard 10 rear axle did they not?
If they could make a hybrid propshaft then, why not today?

I think the earliest seven used a ford side-valve IIRC. They were seriously expensive cars in their day considering you got nearly nothing!

A Series To Escort

Its easy to make a prop for the A Series to the Escort axle. The A Series gearbox reverse sleeve yoke is 1140 UJ size. You can get a flange to suit the escort in 1140.

So you can get, such as a Minor prop and then shorten to suit with the correct flange. All parts except the A Series reverse sleeve yoke are available new from propshaft firms.

Dunninh and Fairbank will be able to sort you out.
