Front calipers
I am trying to source some front calipers for my MK. I am running discs all round with old sierra cosworth solid discs on the rear, but the problem I
have is what car to get the front calipiers off so that they are a good balance. I have looked at Granardas with discs all round. I thought of using
the front calipers but they have five studs Can I use these calipers if so what discs would I be able to use.

I've got some XR4x4 ones which should be good enough? Either that or I know a man who can get hold of brand new Focus ST170 calipers (for 300mm
discs)

by 5 studs are you talking about wheel studs??
if so, dont worry about it, its the mounting hole centres behind the disk, the disk thickness and diameter you need to worry about.
As long as everything matches up they will do. obviously the more pots, the more efficient....

granadas are single pot caliper on the front.
at least on my 1987 E donor they are....
It seems that most running gear items from the granada are idential to parts used on sierras of the same year.

Why are you not using the sierra calipers on the front ?,dont forget the stopping power will be increasd as you are running less than a third of the
original donor weight.
I'm running sierra calipers front and sierra/granada calipers on the rear,believe me its going to stop  .

I have sierra 1.8/2.0l front discs but I wondered if running cosworth discs on the rear that the car would be over braked on the rear end and
therefore have an unbalanced system.

You could always use a balance valve or even a pukka biased pedal box then you can set it up. In any case, I expect the cossie rear calipers are the
same as the XR4x4 ones and therefore the Granada too so I would expect Granada/XR4x4 fronts to be fine.

its always been a thing aprticularly with british built cars, the so called 'parts bin' school of engineering.
ie. you design one (hopefully) good caliper / engine / gearbox etc and use it across your vehicle range. saves them money in the long run.
thats why you shouldnt be surprised if you see escort or sierra parts on the likes of a cardinal hearse, fiesta or a transit etc...
its only when you get to the likes of serious motorsport that you see (usually evpensive) one off things, the sierra RS Cosworth being a good
example

Thanks for your help, I have just been to scrapyard and got a pair of granada 2.0l front calipers these are the same as sierra XR4by4 front calipers
hopefully these should give me a good balance as the the rears on this car are the same calipers as the early cosworth ones I have got for the rear.
