Help with drum brakes

I am building an MK indy with drums from a 1600 sierra and ive noticed that the back plates seem to go on the other way round to the sierra to allow the handbrake cable access. Does this mean that the rear brakes have swapped sides with the left on the right and vice versa or do you just swap the back plates over?
