do you know what model it came from - engine size and trim level?

I have a ford owner manual that lists the typical ratios fitted, which might narrow it down a bit.....

I think I may have posted a scan of it at some time - if you want to search the site for it. I dont post that much, it should be easy to find

Steve,

Found your post, thanks.

is the tab on the diff supposed to state the ratio or just give you a code to reference against a ford list of ratios?

bu$$er knows!

Where is the tab located? I can try and grovel under mine and read off the letters and see if we can make any sense by comparing if you like.......mine is a 2.4 manual diff - I have assumed its a 2.62 (2.64?) unit...

Steve,

looking from the rear of the diff, its on the upper left hand torx backplate bolt.

I assumed it woud have the ratio on it. From you scanned i just assumed it would be a 3.62, but maybe not!.

With a wire brush, a rag, and some wd40 I managed to grovel and read some markings with a bright torch.

(Didnt clean up my diff - its well hidden!)

I got a few more, similar, in some cases just misread but similar, numbers......

8566 HB 364

AA (CANT READ NEXT GROUP) 0956

The 9's g's and 6's might be a misread by you or me, and you are missing a group of numbers, but they look similar....

The bit thats REALLY INTERESTING

is the last group of numbers on the to line - 364. My ford list gives the ratio as 3.64. Nice coincidence, or the diff ratio methinks.

The 2.4, 2.8 and 2.9 non 4x4 all ran this ratio.

You need to check for your missing numbers - I bet they are 364

hope that helped!

the 364 was in the top right of the tag

you could always physically turn the input flange and count how many times its needed to turn the output one rotation...

Colin

My book doesn't list an 'HB' but it may be because it is a 7.5" diff as fitted to some of the Granadas and I'm pretty sure this list is the 7" ones only. Measure across the mounting faces which will either be 7" or 7.5".

Anyway, the list I have is as follows:

85GG 4006 DC --- 3.97
85GG 4006 BC --- 3.62
85GG 4006 AC --- 3.38
85GG 4006 FB --- 3.36
87BG 4006 GB --- 3.14

86GG 4006 AAA --- 3.92 LSD
V87BB 4006 BAA --- 3.62 LSD
V87BG 4006 CAA --- 3.38 LSD
85GG 4006 AAA --- 3.36 LSD

Sorry to get your hopes up!

Chris
