Diff.

Are the 1.6 and 2l sierra diffs the same or is the 2l beefed up in any way?

sierra difs are all the same with the exception of ratios which vary on model and lsd's on 4x4's, grannies and some odd others...

They differ also in the type of shaft/CV joint they use I think. Certainly later 2.0l models had rear disks and these used lobro (bolt on) joints whereas drum braked sierras (1.6 for example) used tripode (push in) type shafts.
All the Sierra LSDs were the same dimentions externally as a normal lobro type diff but may differ in ratio (XR4x4 is 3.62:1) and of course have a viscous coupling inside.

suppose i should add that the p100 (pickup) sierra has a live axle and that some grannies and possibly sierra's had 7.5" difs, though most are 7" (that size is dimension of crown wheel and pinion, but also happens to be dimension across bolt mounting holes)
