Gear linkage

Finished fitting the MK rod type floor change gear linkage at the weekend to my Indy/Fireblade. Very disappointed, lots of travel in the stick and very sloppy despite using the inner holes of the levers. Not helped by the play in the bulk head lever unit. Two questions:
1/ Is there anything I can do to improve the situation or is this normal?
2/ Where can I get a decent paddle type system that will not cost a fortune and allow me to keep the Sierra stalks and coulmn shroud?

Help please, getting pi@@ed off now, mid build blues, just want to get it finished for the summer.

You could make your own paddle system, but it would be a heck of a lot easier to do so without the Sierra column stuff int he way.

I don't know which MK stick shift you have, do you have any photos of it?

Ideally you want the holes utilised to be:
Furthest away on the lever
Closest to on this side of the rocker
Furthest away on engine side of the rocker
Closest to on the gear spigot lever

That should generate the minimum amount of travel.

Steve

it seems this is a common problem with the mk rod shift. I binned all but the gear lever and the shift lever that goes onto the engine and am now in the process of swapping to cable shift. Should cost about an extra £30 ish and according to some on here should be alot more precise

I made my own gear link kit, consisting of 2 rose joints bolted to the bulkhead, a M10 rod with the bars welded at 90° to each other, works well, with very little play, havent got a picture at the min but can post one later. or you can have a look at stoneleigh!

We've had the MK rod shift on both our Indys which worked extremely well in both cars - Fireblade and ZX12R.

Anyway, Pathfinder on here was developing a paddle shift to fit a Sierra column which enables you to retain the switchgear. We have the prototype fitted with a control cable which works very well and is very precise.

I'm not sure if Pathfinder is manufacturing them, so maybe worth dropping him a U2U if you're interested.

Hellfire - don't suppose you have any bits of the old rod shift to "dispose of" do you?
