Escort Axle ratio?

Hello,

I have a Kent 1600 (40 though over)crossflow with ported head and 234 cam. I plan to fitt 2 x 40 DCOE's and a Seirra Type 9 5 speed gear box. At present the escort axle I have is a 3.55 unit. I think it will be a bit high. Can any one suggest from experience a better ratio to use please

Try a 4.1:1 or 4.4:1

What size wheels and tyres are you using? I have a 2ltr pinto and type 9 box on 13" wheels and 65 profile tyres. The diff is 3.44:1 capri and 1st gear is almost redundant in that setup.

yours, Pete.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Pete,
I have exactly the same set up as yours except I have a 3.75:1 Capri diff, do you think my 2nd gear will be redundant?

1st still usable for fast getaways but it depends on your final choice of wheel and tyre size. I still have my sva tyres on and could do with something bigger.

J ames, sory about that, hehehe

seriously, you have a tinsey bit more power than I have, I am going to use 185 60 13 tyres for the speedo thing on sva, which will give me 28 in 1st, 53 in 2nd, 76 in 3rd, 104 in 4th and 126 in 5th assuming a 6000 redline. I think 1st will be only any good for donuts and setting the rear tyres alight.

I have a 3.75:1 diff, but after sva, might move upto a 3.15 slipper from a 2.8 Capri
