Sierra Front brake Problem

Hi All,

Done just over 300 miles so far and noticed this evening that the front brake pads are 'machining' a nice groove in the side of the brake disc hub.
There seems to be too much movement in the carrier or the pads are too wide somehow?
Sierra front hubs with Rally Design cross-drilled discs, good (forget the make!) pads and exchange Sierra calipers.

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

Martin

have you got the spring clips fitted correctly on the calipers?

istr my pads run with a fair bit of clearance to the bell. there should be very little movement in the caliper or carrier either

a photo would help.

Assuming you have the correct pads for the size of disc --- Sierras used two different diameters on the front, check the guide pins for wear.

Thanks for the replies!

Hmmmm! Can't remember where the pads came from but didn't realise there were 2 sizes. I'll have to check I've got the right ones!
Thought - Might the discs be the wrong size for the upright/carrier? or would I just be able to change the pads???

Cheers

Ok,

I'm starting to think that the pads are the wrong ones, possibly from a 4x4 Sierra with bigger discs.

1) Can someone do me a favour and measure the width of a ''standard'' 1.6 or 2 litre Sierra brake pad please??????
2) Should the spring clip hold the pad into the caliper???

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

spring clips should fit like this. it's a saab caliper in the picture so there'll be detail differences but they're all ATE calipers.

can't help with pad width unfirtunately as i'm not with my car.
