volvo 340 gearbox

Has anyone used or thought about using the gearbox and back axle out of of a 340 the one where the gearbox is part of the axle. my theory being the can be bought dirt cheap independant rear suspension and also with having no gearbox will give a little more legroom for the occupants. wot u think even if its to slag the idea off.

Not a chance mate. Had one of them once. Shed. Utter shed. Anyway, I digress....

It's not IRS, it's more of a swing axle (with crap handling to boot). It's also a funny shape, and an awkwardly big size

So in all, a bit of a washout really (and the bits are expensive too)

The only thing a 340 is good for,or so i've been told is the rad.
I've seen it squashed inside a few nose cones
and come with the thermo switch for fan as well.

that's true, they do have a nice little rad to their plus.

Renault 5s do too, also with a thermo switch in them
