Escort handbrake cable
Hi
Im using the original escort handbrake cable on my locost (the one with the "bar" .
Currently to shorten it, I have had to cut a section out of the cable near the handbrake, and use one those mini cable clamps to hold it together.
It looks a bit of a mess but does do the job. Does anyone know how you can put a ferrule on the cable the same way as the original was made, I would
prefer 1 complete cable.
Thanks
Shaun

I went to a local yacht chandler who swaged a suitable nipple on for a few pence. Works a treat and no issue at SVA.

The bar setup is trouble because the rubber flap hinge gets rock hard with age as a result you will usually the handbrake on the NS is NBG but works
ine on the drivers side.
It is an old problem with this type of Girling brake set up it used to cause a lot of problems getting Escort through MOTs in the 1970s
The cure is to do the mod that BL did to the Marina which had the exactly same setup -- throw the bar and and hinge flap to the skip and fit a very
late Marina or Ital handbrake cable, this used to be a very common mod.
The Ital/Marina cable is a direct straight forward replacement for the Escort cable and is easier to shorten if required --- the steel bar and rubber
thingy are not rquired

I did that with my car but needed to fit a bracket and compensating lever to the axle casing. It does work well though with no problems .
