Cortina brake upgrade
What is a cheap upgrade i am running std cortina calipers and discs with green pads. on track days i can overheat brakes need to to something, thanks

Before spending too much money it would probably be worth trying some better pads. Maybe something like Ferrodo DS2500 or Mintex 1144s, possibly
something a bit more 'racey' depending on the cars usage. If you're still having problems then maybe try some vented discs and space
the calipers to suit.
The cortina calipers are still used a reasonable amount for racing without too much trouble.

Ah yes, forgot to mention that, probably the first port of call is the fluid!

If you can find a set, Austin Pricess callipers are a bolt on replacements for the solif Ford (originally made and supplied to BL by AP Brakes).
Capri 2.8 vented disks are a direct replacement for the solid disks and there are spacer kits (usually with a refurb kit)to widen the princess
calipers to fit.
If you use Ebay you should vent and 4 pot your brakes for under £200.

If the brakes are overheating best move is probably Capri vented discs and spacers in the Cortina calipers with decent pads.
Princess calipers are a bad move not worth the hassle involved fitting them (they are not a straight replacement) -- they are much heavier and
won't make the brakes run cooler in fact they reduce the cooling area because they cover more of the disc.
Like wise unless you are boiling the fluid don't change to a more expensive fluid -- you would know if the fluid is boiling the pedal goes to
the floor.. Just use normal DO5.1 or DOT4 change the fluid at least once a year.
However one thing you must do is check very carefull that brakes are not dragging on-- check the piston are free in the calipers, check the
mastercylinder piston is free to come back fully, check the handbrake cable isn't over adjusted and check you haven'tt over filled the
brake fluid reservoir.
The other thing of course is driving technique make sure you are free of the FWD habit of dragging the brakes into the corner.
