Steering - cheaper than £60?
Im a bit worried that the 16" steering wheel i have on at the moment is too big (i can only just fit under it with the seat pushed right
back).
The cheapest boss i can find is sixty something quid and then i have to pay for the wheel after.
Is there another, cheaper one out there i am missing?
Steering column btw is 87 Jag XJ40
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Can you not make your own boss?
I had a similar issue when fitting a non standard steering wheel to a TR6 steering column in a TVR...
In the end I re-drilled and tapped the old boss to fit the new wheel to it....

Demon Thieves (read Tweeks) do bosses from £35 upwards. My Sierra column Momo boss was £45 delivered, but I made sure it was the collapsable version
(required for IVA, depending if steering column in collapsable) unlike Mountney's solid boss.
You can pick up new Mountney M range steering wheels up from £40 ish, depending onthe style you want - I got an 11inch round one.
Great British Sports Cars/Robin Hood sell a combo kit of 12inch flat-bottomed/D shape (often referred to as Mountney 'Corsa D' model) and
matching boss for £100 via their website and eBay, may be worth checking it out.
I'm not sure about fitment for Jag column, but might be worth a call to Tweeks for a chat....

cut the centre out of my Sierra steering wheel and welded a plate to suit my wheel, cost nowt.

Ditto - my boss consists of the centre of the sierra wheel turned on the lathe connected to a personal boss collapsible section that has had the end
cut off, tapered down and a smaller turned ring added to accept a small momo wheel with 3 bolts. It was all aligned on the lathe and is perfectly true
unlike some of the toffee that is sold as a professional boss.
Having said that I'm going removable this winter to get in and out easier.

I wonder if long term you'd be better of using a Sierra column!
Then use Sierra wheel for IVA. And nice, easy to get, cheap boss and wheel for after test.

Fr all the hassle that would be (new mounts etc) it would be easier to pay the £120 for one to fit the jag one.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

I am but changing to a sierra column would mean buying a sierra column, modifying the link between the column and the rack to mate to the sierra
column and then i would still be buying a new boss and wheel post IVA.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

If you want a sierra boos of any quality (casting of sufficient accuracy to make the steering lock work) you are going to end up making your own, Not
difficult or time consuming, Chris Gibb asked me to email pickies of mine - presumeably for his new book?
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I'd agree hence my post above. Speedy I didn't weld onto the aluminium section but attached the collapsible steel section with countersunk
socket screws.
