Max width tyres on 6" rims?
What do you guys reckon the max tyre width would be on 6" wide rims?
I am seriously short of cash, so wont be changing the wheels on my car for the foreseeable, but need more rubber on the road.
I currently run crappy 195/50/15 tyres on my rims. The hardest compound known to man which is great fun with 160bhp but I think its going to be plain
dangerous with 300+bhp.
So thinking of wider tyres at the back and narrower up front for no other reason than putting the power down.
Perhaps 185/55/15 at the front and 225/50/15 at the back?
Toyo T1S are available in both sizes from what I can tell
Cheers,
David

This is a good site -
http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html
About 1/3 of the way down there is a tyre to rim calculator.
It says for a 225/50 R15 a rim size between 6 and 7.5 inch is OK
Seems 225 is the max for a 6inch wheel.

acording to a number of manufactures web sites its possible to fit 225's to 6" rims. but ive got 195/50/15s fitted to 6" rims and
200 slicks on 6 1/2" rims ideal size is 7"+ and both distort the tyres so much that not all the width of the tyre is of use only the
centre 75% is in main contact with the road surface. would say width is not everything quality of tyre more important

225 on a 6" is about the max as said.
205 on a 16x6 rim was std fit on my S14a 200SX and those who wanted wider rubber on std rims went up to 225 but no further.

LJK Setright always make out that the wheel width should be 85% of the tyre width as an optimum, never less that 75% and never more that 100%
So max is 205, optimum is 185 and minimum is 155
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I run 205s rear 185 front on 6j rims and to be honest i would be supprised if more tyre width would actaully put much more tyre on the ground.

The best thing to do is look up the tyres you want to run. The brand's website will tell you all the technical information on that tyre. One of
these bits of information will be the min, max, and ideal wheel sizes.
You will find that some 215 tyres will not fit on some rims, whereas others will, so it's always best to check the individual tyre.
