Sierra Diff Oil Level - Alternatives???
I've replaced the seals on the Sierra diff while it was in situ in the back of the Indy.
Now it's time to put some oil back in.
That leaves me rather stuck. The rear drain plug / filler point is seized beyond the point where I can use hand / allen key to get it undone.
It's also hidden beneath a chassis rail / between the fuel tank so getting more leverage is tricky, as applying any heat.
So are there any alternatives for working out how much oil was left in there, what the capacity is and how much I can be bothered to pour in through
the breather hose?
I'm guessing that the "bottom of the drain plug level" is above the level of the hole in the side with or without the seal. So it
drained down to the level of the hole in the sides of the casing.

Well if you know it's completely empty you could just poor the requisite amount through the breather hose but it won't be accurate.... I
think one way or another you might be needing to get that nut undone....

Scrap that!!!
The numpty mechanic (me) was having a lefty loosy, righty tighty moment whilst under the car.
Drain plug undone!
Weird thing is though, oil was coming out as soon as I'd opened it up? Shirley it's got to be higher than the sides?
Ah well. I'll keep an eye on the level, now I know my clockwise from my anti clock!!

Just be super careful that it's truly oil overflowing rather than just wicking through the threads. I've been running my diff on 1/2 the
required amount of oil on account of thinking it was full when it wasn't

Stick your little pinky through the hole level with the bottom of the threads, pull it back out, if there is a drop of oil on the end of the finger
your ok. If not fill until it does. That's the way I was taught anyway.
