how to assemble braided hoses?
Hi, im a bit suprised i have to ask this as i thought it would be simple but nothing ever is I had a look through the forum and decided to get my
hoses unions etc from rally design like most of you seem to. I cant see how the brass ring nips on the tube as i can run the nut down all the way and
it only just seems to touch on the taper. Also do i need to strip the braiding off where it crimps on to the plastic or does this go over the tapered
brass bit?? which would explain why the nut runs all the way down at the mo. Hope someone can understand this as its puzzling me at the mo. Thanks.

I was wondering this too... Think i got it right, but not sure... Got all my bits from Darren @ GTS.
Couldn't get the bring ring over the braided bit. Pushes on the plastic tube ok tho... seems to grip fine when all done up

Yep, guess i just needed a break ive sussed it out now with a fresh look at it- braided bit goes over the brass. Thanks any way.

If anyone doesn't mind parting a few quid on the Classic Ford magazine, this month has a step by step quide to building and fitting braided
hoses.

there is a thread in the sva section about braided hoses, if you are planning to make your own it might be worth you having a look.

No, i have been told that braided hoses that are not TUV approved will soon be illegal for road use.

In my "draft" manual (March 2004) it says (quoted exactly)
"Compression joints of the type using separate ferrules are not considered suitable for joints on hydraulic brake lines OTHER THAN IN THE CASE
OF A HOSE DESIGNED FOR A HIGH PRESSURE APPLICATION THAT INCORPORATES AN INNER SUPPORT SLEEVE IN THE COMPRESSION FITTING"
I.e. the rally design fittings are fine cos they do!
In any case, as I have said elsewhere, this rule is a bit crazy as these hose assemblies are (generally) made to aerospace specs for aeroplane and
helicopter hydraulic systems!
