sierra discs question.
while on the road collecting parts for my kit car I picked up some Uprights with discs.
but im unsure what they are off.
any ideas how i can work out what discs i need and what year roughly the uprights off?

Them's definately look like Ford Sierra uprights  
Just measure the diameter of the disks as I believe that there are 2 sizes available

240mm discs in vented on normal sierra's (or solid on the 1.3 sierra's)
or 260mm vented on XR4's, V6's and ones with ABS
(4x4's also had 260mm ones but they are different)

Certainly that looks like a sierra upright.
Is that your lower wishbone? it looks to have welds in odd places near the shock mount and the tubes seem to stop a long way short of the ball joint
mount. Are you sure it is strong enough?

i'd have serious reservations about that wishbone.
also, i think your calipers are on upside down. is the bleed nipple at the top? if it's at the bottom, swap them n/s to o/s and vice versa

As above, the lower wishbones don't look too good to me.
The shock mount should be much much closer to the bottom ball joint. As it is the ball joint mounting plate will bend easily.

yes they are my wishbones.
the weld marks are very random as it is one piece of metal all way down.
the left and right weld mark is where the old suspension mounting.
i have no idea of the reason for the weld marks but when you grind them down you can see its 1 tube??
i was concerned too :O)
im gonna build new ones as the mount on teh top is 5mm steel and weighs about 300000 tons.

ye i noticed they was on the wrong sides.
they aint bolted in properly yet they just went on to ensure they fit.
the car is to be rebuilt fully soon to paint chassis and get proper bolts etc.....
ill look into the distance for the mount to the ball joint i didnt really notice.
The wishbones had been given to me till i build some more.
alot of the car is old and will be replaced before going on road :O)
DOES THE TOP WISHBONE LOOK OK?

Only concerned for your safety Matey 
The top one doesn't look bad but the angle of the ball joint looks a bit close to the mushroom. if you don't have the engine in at the
moment then it should settle to the right position once it is in.
I wouldn't be happy with the lower ones myself but as you intend to replace them them anyway then no issues. I would also get longer shocks so
that the mounting point is much closer to the end nearer the ball joint.

really appreciate all your advise and thanks for confirming my fears :O)
i noticed they didnt look very pretty but hoped they would last the road tests on my local airfield but ill change them before that.
