oily engine
After having issues with hitting a limiter at 5500 rpm, I decided to try changing the cam position sensor. Did that, took it out for a quick spin...
but when I got back I found this:

It's not totally clear from the photos but there is oil all over the engine bay :-( I think (hope) I didn't fully tighten the VANOS (cam
adjustment) solenoid, which appears to have dripped oil onto the fan belt, which then subsequently spread it all around my engine bay. So it looks
like a lot of oil, but I think the volume is actually pretty small. Oops.

at least it's not going to rust...
clean it up and then give it another run, check the breather isn't blocked or you haven't over filled the engine with oil.

Cleaned up my engine tonight and fitted new spark plugs. When I took the old ones out they were looking much closer to tan-coloured than before so I
think the cam sensor might have cured the over-fueling (and it's definitely cured the rev limiter issue). Unfortunately I now have a bigger
problem.
There is a lot of oil coming out as vapour from the crankcase breather (if I pull the hose I can see a plume of vapour). There is loads of oil in the
manifold and some of the valves are sitting in a little pool of oil! The (brand new) CCV has clearly failed and is letting oil back into the engine...
but I'm worried that it has failed *because* there is so much oil coming out of the breather. Would I be wasting my money replacing it in that
case? This is all new since yesterday, before this was fine. Any ideas? This is obviously related to the oil everywhere yesterday... but how?
There's no oil inside the filter so it wasn't a case of the filter sucking in loads of oil from the dripping VANOS solenoid - on the inlet
side, the oily bits are breather hose - CCV - hose - inlet manifold - valves. Where's it all coming from?

IF it's coming out of the breather hose?? AND yer now revving to redline
There may be a correlation :-)
Possibly yer motor is Clapped (rings at least) and the new use of rpms has highlighted the issue?
