Shortening Sierra rack, how much by?
I am building an ST Loco, want a quickrack, and don't want too much bump steer. Std rack to use would be an escort quickrack but a) I
don't have one already and B) it's not quite so easy to shorten. and c) it's a bit too long for ideal bump steer setup I think.
I already have a sierra quickrack (one with a steel casing so it's easy to shorten) and I like the bolt mounts - easy to shim to adjust height
and positive location with no rubber.
For a std book width chassis, any ideas on how much to shorten the rack by or where I can find a suitable calculation to work it out?
(or do I have to re-install my CAD software and draw it up properly, really can't be bothered at the mo!!!)

I was thinking about changing my Escort rack to shortened Sierra , somewhere on this forum it has been quoted that the Escort rack is approx.
3.5" too long.
How do the Sierra track rod ends work out for Cortina uprights?
What length rod extensions would you use ? , if your making them I could use a pair

When we say the rack is too long , we mean the width to the swivel joint that is under the gaiter each side , for no bump steer that swivel point
should be at the same width as the lower wishbone inner pivots, that why they shorten the Sierra rack , but then as you say the track rod ends would
not reach so they fit rod extensions for they TR Ends to bolt on to and give the correct width overall.
I would probably need extensions that would take the Escort track rod end so that it all connected with my Cortina uprights.

I'm still thinking through the possibilities!! Just been having a measure up etc. I can certainly make track rod extensions but I am still not
sure exactly what I am doing! My nicely powder coated ST chassis is being increasingly chopped about and the rack swap is quite involved, meaning a
fair bit of refabrication.

I`m not sure if Sierra TREs will fit Cortina tapers but Escort TREs which do fit Cortina tapers should fit on the Sierra track rods, the thread for
each is listed the same 14mmx2mm pitch. Haven`t tried it myself though.
