Me again, this time a stuck hub...

Following on from my previous thread in which we solved why my drums weren't going on, I have rebuilt one side with the back plate behind te hub, just trying the the other side and the hub won't come off. It pulls off a short way then gets stuck and and no matter what I do it won't budge.

Any tips on how to get it off?

Typically it's been a nice enough afternoon to work on the car outside so it's currently in the air in my drive and I need to get this done so I can put it away!

Sounds as if the adjustment's not backed off enough. So try taking off as much adjustment as possible.
If it's a self adjusting set-up then pull the drum off as far as possible, a block of wood behind the drum lip and a big hammer are your best bet.
Don't be tempted to hit it metal to metal as it can chip the drum lip.

I've got the drum and back plate off (hub/bearing carrier was incorrectly fitted behind back plate) and now the hub won't come off the shaft.

Two long bolts + nuts and a piece of steel angle across the shaft end

Has the bearing pulled off the hub or has the whole shaft moved through the carrier?

Get a couple of pieces of wood or RHS and put them behind the bearing carrier then tap the shaft back through the bearing, might need to respace a couple of times.

Couple of observations.

I wouldn't bend and straighten copper brake pipe too often, it work hardens and will crack.
What is the orange gunge on the shaft/bearing? Looks like rust and grease in which case bearing is knackered.

Thanks daviep and jacko. Had just come to that conclusion myself though losing light so had to reassemble to tackle another day.

Gunge is grease, possibly contains rust but not sure if from bearing or not, bearing seems smooth.

No excuses on the brake line though...O

All sorted now, thanks for the tips.

Only problem now is I can't get a good pedal feel, looks like I must have a slight leak somewhere.
