steering coupling

Ive just got my sierra steering column(adjustable) & coupling from the scrap yard, the coupling is a forged 2 piece affair with a triangular clamp arrangement (just like the one at the bottom of the column,) the lower portion has a rubber uj & the upper portion has a proper uj,
How have people extended these type of coupling, the haynes manual shows a nice round bar between the the two uj's which would be easy to cut & weld an evtension tube to,has anyone any photos, thanks in advance

Do a search on my name and steering column, and all will become clear

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Hi dood, I have used this type.
I simply cut the triangle top piece off and welded a length of pipe between the cut and the triangle piece. The triangle fits almost perfectly inside the 25mm pipe as used at the back axle, and I then roll pinned each end and fully welded each end.
Cheers
