Removing Sierra Rear End

Hi Guys,
What the easiest way to remove the whole Sierra rear end?
Is it prop shaft bolts first, then the four that hold the back of the diff to the floor pan - then what?

If you're going to disassemble the hubs later...... I suggest you loosen the hub nuts first, whilst the car is still on its wheels - they are very tight.

Pat,

first thing, like John says, loosen the hub nuts before doing anything. You'll need a 41mm socket and a big bar as they are very tight. Also be aware that one is left hand thread and the other is right hand thread - I think the passenger side (RHD) is the left hand thread!

The easiest way to remove the bits you need is to remove the whole subframe...

1. Disconnect the brake pipes and handbrake cables.
2. Undo the 4 propshaft to diff bolts.
3. Undo the diff to fllor pan bracket.
4. undo the 2 bolts that hold the subframe tube to the floorpan. One either side just in front of the trailing arm pivots.

The whole lot will then drop out from under the car - job done.

IIRC, left hand thread nuts have little notches cut in each corner of the nut, about halfway up the flat. not sure if the originals were, replacements are, but anyway it is the passenger side that's left hand thread

Yup i can confirm pasenger side is lefthand thread on hub nuts,i was told the rule of thumb when putting them on is allways tighten towards the front

i've still got my spares. you can have them if you want - i'll stick em behind parts desk if you do want em

if not a bearing kit is about £7 on trade a side and comes with pairs of nuts per bearing

Just had a thought,i think they are both righthand thread for front hubs.
