New tyres needed
Need some suggestions. Used to run Toyo R888s but very expensive now. What tyres are good on grip but dont cost the earth.

I came to the conclusion a while back that in general normal road tyres are way too hard to work well on a lightweight seven.
I obviously haven't tried them all though, so like yourself, if there's anything less expensive out there that comes close to 888's
when used on a seven I'd be keen to know.....

Tyres
Yokohamas 539 get my vote done
loads of track days and they still look good. Tried road tyres and they don't have the same grip.

Your right it is a road tyre, but lots run this for a seven. I am on 13 wheels, to date done over 5K mile and loads of life left.

I liked AD08s a lot, but they only go up to 205 width in 15" which ends up being not grippy enough for my lardy 7. On a lighter car they might
work well, and they are def good value.

I am going for 205/50/15 on the rear and 195/50/15 on the front just been quoted £280.00 full set fitted for toyo r1r thought that was a really good
price

Are A539s still available? I thought they were replaced with the Parada?
Just Googled and it seems they are! I was sure they were discontinued before....
Ran them on both my 205 GTIs and on my Indy and always rated them very well for dry/wet grip and value for money.

I have a set of Toyo CF1's
I need to realy rag it to get them hot then they stick
When cold they are ok for road driving but not exceptional
I eat to survive
I drink to forget
I breath to pi55 my ex wife off (and now my ex partner)

If you have 15" I think toyo R1-R are a great tyre for our cars.
Almost as good as 888s I reckon.

Yokohama A021R
Tread pattern like A539 so work in the wet.
Compound like A048 so grippy.
Maybe not the ultimate grip of Avon ZZR, A048, 888's or slicks, but a very sensible alternative.
Not that cheap (maybe £300 for a set, Polley is best value).
