Telescopic steering column suggestions

I'm looking into replacing a very very old fashioned solid steering column with a telescopic one from a production car. Any suggestions of which cars had such columns? I'm thinking tube inside a tube with shear pins kind of affair as the current one is a javelin to the heart job.

triumph herald/spitfire etc all had a telescopic column. Depends how simple/complicated you want it.......
the spline at the rack end happens to fit a group4 escort UJ too.

Corsa and nova both have tubes in tubes sealed with an injected plastic.
