Bedding in Brakes - how much?
One think I would like to do before my IVA is to get the brakes bedded in. New rear shoes and front pads, nothing special just some generic ones.
I only live about a mile from the IVA test centre so I can take a bit of a scenic route but anything too extreme could be considered taking the p** by
the old bill.
So how much driving do you need to do to get the brakes bedded in and what is the best way of doing it. Can get a few laps round the backstreets
around the house but hitting 30mph would be pushing it. Is it best to drag the brakes or try and put some big heavy stops on it?
Cheers
Dave

With my latest pads, i found the only way i could get them bedded in quickly was on a trackday. Because these cars are so light, stop so easily, and
going steady this time of the year on the roads, i just couldnt bed them in well enough

Brand new pads and discs wont take as long as used discs and new pads, However, considering IVA braking is done at such low speeds I cant see them not
being bedded in completely being an issue. If you take a scenic route to the acctual IVA making sure you do lots of gentle braking on the way, that
should be fine.

Buy new discs? Not much more than about £10 each.
Or just take a even more convoluted route to IVA!

take the shortest route to the IVA, but forget things, lots and lots of times!

Do new discs make that much of a difference?

You need a full tank of petrol, find the "nearest" petrol station

That depends on whether your old discs look like mine tend to, like a cross section of the Highlands. I swear my ears must be bad as I never notice
any grinding, but my discs are always mullered.

Exactly, its all about getting the surface of the pad to merge with that of the disc. If they both start perfectly flat its alot quicker. A big fat
lip on the edge and lots of ripples mean not only will it take longer to bed in, theres more chance of the pad glazing.
